1.Check for Injuries

First thing first you need to check the well-being of yourself and your passengers. If you’re injured, call 911 or ask someone else to do so. If injured do not move, and wait for emergency personnel. If you’re not too hurt to move, check on the other passengers in your vehicle.

2.Assess Outside of Vehicle

After you have made sure everyone is secure in the vehicle then you can inspect your situation outside of the vehicle. If you’re able to, move to the side of the road or a sidewalk. If it can still operate your vehicle safely then try to move it out of traffic.

3.Call Emergency Personnel

No matter the type of accident in most states it is a law to report the incident to the police to create a police report of the public disturbance. This will also come up if you file a claim with your insurer because they will often ask for a copy of the police report to help with the claims process.

4. Exchange Information

After you exchange information with the other driver you need to gather your documentation of the incident to protect yourself down the road. Also, make sure you take many photos to help support the claims process and speak to as many witnesses to the accident as possible for credibility.

6.Notify Insurance Agency

Notify your insurance agency as soon as possible. Give them a call at the scene to hear what they will need for your claim. If not possible call when in a safe place to speak and provide them with all of the documentation you collected at the accident.
